Safer, faster, better

How it all started:

The Skibase-Story

"I needed little money, skied every day and was happy.
In November 2002, I bought about 20 pairs of skis and 15 pairs of boots."

Andi Heimpel
Founder of Skibase Arlberg

The Skibase story began twenty years ago, inNovember 2001, when I bought the Ski Arlberg season ticket. Back in December it felt like it was snowing non-stop. Still living in the Bavarian Allgäu, near the Vorarlberg border, it was a daily 75-minute drive to the Arlberg region. My wife Susanne and I quickly agreed: we want to stay there.

I was quickly able to team up with a tour operator in Klostertal and let my connection play.

I mediated ski instructors, cooks, service staff and tour guides. Did ski service for the hotel’s rental skis and in return I was able to stay overnight, often in the relaxation room of the sauna when it was full.

In a small rental house with direct access to the basement, I set up service machines and a binding tester. A hotel garage became the perfect rental spot.

A year later we moved into the basement of the former power plant manager building in Wald. We set up an apartment above the workshop and a holiday apartment with 12 beds on the floor above.

That was the start of my own little shop: Skibase ARLBERG ski rental!
